Are we there yet? Are we there yet?
No, but we are on a bit of a vacation.
What insiders call an Inotrope Vacation. Inotropes are a class of medication administered by IV that must be closely monitored along with the heart. Especially by highly trained, super cute and witty male nurses: Batman and Robin.
Hence, why I am currently in hospital.
You see, sometimes, like any old worn out battery, as the heart fails you need a little boost, a medicated jump start if you will, to recharge. Fortunately for me that means a few days R&R in the Las Vegas of all hospitals, the Royal Jubilee in Victoria, BC.
Aaaand as luck would have it, my heart has not responded as hoped to medication. Following ’rounds’ my transplant team in Vancouver and my team in Victoria decided that there was one more ride I get to go on before my vacation comes to an end. It seems I played the right (fixed) game at the fair. I am soon to be the lucky recipient of a Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) – a mechanical heart pump. #weeeeeee
So, to illustrate my journey thus far, consider the following:
Clark Griswald? That’s me. I certainly identify with Clark, especially the hysterical laugh thinking:
I must be crazy! I’m on a pilgrimage to see a moose! Praise Marty Moose!
Can’t really say that anyone else in my life is accurately portrayed by the wife and kids, however the sentiments they represent I think we all have felt at one point. Maybe today more than ever!
I want to go hooooome!
This is a real drag!
The Moose at Wally World? That’s my transplant. If you see the movie you will know, my LVAD is the pimp that gives the Griswald’s the wrong directions.
This is where I am now. On a pilgrimage to Wally World where I have been given wrong directions by a pimp. #goodtimes
So the next few weeks are going to be off the hook, as my surgery will be before this week is finished. I will do my best to keep you posted but it might be a few weeks. I hope you will join me for the ride.
Please comment and say anything as I need all the cheers I can get to help me get to Wally World.
